More “How Not To Get Scammed” (emails with attachments, phishing…)
This is a copy of another recent email I came across in my SPAM folder. It got filtered out as Spam but I am copying the text just in case for people to see what these types of email phishing scams look like. Everything is fake. It is designed to appear as an invoice from “LifeLock” for $260 which is being renewed. I don’t have LifeLock. The purpose is to get someone to worry that they may really are being charged, that its a mistake. What they want the “sucker” to do is call the “HelpLine”. If you call them, they will “phish” information out of you, like your address, credit card, or bank info so they can “fix” this mistake. Do that and you probably will lose some money! Be careful, be on guard.
If you have any doubts about a mysterious “charge” on some invoice that you don’t recognize I would suggest you call your bank and speak to someone there, or go to your bank yourself. Don’t call the “Help Line” number they tell you to call, whatever you do. At the other end of the line you will be talking to some scammers who will try to sweet talk you into giving them your information (credit card number, bank, etc).
These type of scams especially are targeted at the elderly. American lost 3 billion dollars to scams in 2023.
